I almost have a moment there and wanted to drop it in the category DNF, but I struggle several days with it so I finished it.The only thing that kept me going was my ambition and the entertaining humorous parts.
But sex and swearing did not come along for me.
I'm sorry.
Short chapters therefore a fast read. Lots of twists but I could predicted the end from the first few chapters.
Actually more like 2.5 stars.Maybe wander why.Well let me tell you why.
I read some YA books lately, and let me tell you something. The more I read, the more I realize that sex became more meaningless and is more acclaimed by the young generation, which is sad and worrying. Soon we will see People only by name, but their faces will held no emotions. They will just go to work and back home, they’ll just bury themselves in iPhones, Xboxes, iPads, laptops or who knows what else the future will give them and nothing else. Sadly, today, if you put a group of ten teens to interact with each other will see them interact but with their phones. It seems more and more that teenagers lost the ability to communicate, lost the ability to feel something. As for the authors out there, maybe these kind of books sells, but most of it you must have the courage to write something that’s not degrading the human being and try to teach and set a value, otherwise every young girl or boy out there will assume that having sex without feeling something real is okay.
I’m aware that each generation will challenge the beliefs of those who came before them and the result may be a shift which can improves society or makes it worse. I just hope that we will not forget what makes us humans.
Thanks you, Kurt Brindley, for the possibility of reading The Sea Trials of an Unfortunate Sailor.I would say the only reason I give this - 4 stars - it is because of the style the book was written. I wish you would write more military books but with a lot more action. I am sure that you can bring to us, readers, lots of exciting full of tension moments since you practically live in the navy's core.

I love the cover and I liked the story, but somewhere along the way I couldn't connect with the characters or their actions. Some elements of the story could have been more developed while others presented lack of credibility.Altered is the story of some young humans genetically modified to become perfect soldiers. Escaping prison, a laboratory where they were kept for testing, the four boys: Sam, Trev, Cas and Nick are on the run from their creators. They also take Anna with them, the daughter of the one responsible with the testing.
The story is contoured like a quest, with clues left behind to be solved when the time comes, codes and tattoos. The characters have different personalities, some are fun some not so much but they energize the entire story. The connection between Anna and Sam was missing the spark.
The whole idea of genetic alteration of human DNA is very interesting and the story have some twists that can easily keep the reader going.
I'm gonna read the sequel since I'm very curious where the story goes.

IS IT?
Partials is an amazing dystopian story. Here, we enter our future world where the newborns survive just an average of fifty-six hours after birth and most of the world population is gone decimated by the war with Partials - engineered enhanced human super soldiers.
Among teenagers, there are just a handful of adults who stayed immune to this new virus that wiped out the human race, therefore new laws are instituted in order to keep our race from extinction. Most of the teenagers are working into a hospital or army. Everyone hopes for finding a cure to this new weaponized virus.
Kira, the sixteen years old protagonist, is working into the hospital and cannot accept the fact that after 11 years of researches, the virus keeps killing every baby that’s born and geneticists have no clue about how this virus works. She is amazing and determinated, smart and responsible. She has the optimism and the courage of her age, with a small dose of insanity or naivety would say some or one of the plague baby, but she comes with new ideas in finding a cure.
The virus is not the only enemy. Rioters and hidden mercenaries threaten the stability of the community which is already weakened. The threat of the Partials is also imminent.
There are other characters as Jayden, Haru, Xochi, and Marcus just enough developed to keep the story very alive.
Of course there is a love story of Kira and Marcus, which for me it looked more like a best friends relationship. And there is Samm...and Kira and Samm on the other hand…..there might be passion and love. I guess will find out in the next book, Fragments .
I loved Marcus’ character, especially his way of releasing the tension with his jokes. Like this one:
“ Well, thanks for not shooting anyone, I guess,” said Marcus.
“My contribution was to somehow refrain from peeing myself. You can thank me later.”
Mr. Wells did a great job in vividly picturing this apocalyptic world. Also he managed to emphasis the essence of the young soul, still pure in contradiction with no soul inside of adults, the ones that rule the remaining world. Not much changed from the ones in power these days, all lies and manipulations.
The story moves in a fast pace keeping the reader on the edge.

Under the Never Sky, by Veronica Rossi is an entire new dystopian world. The story is set in the future where the Aether is the air they breathe and where the Aether storms wiped out entire regions bringing along destruction and desolated, barren land. People are forced to live in Pods, away from the harsh life of the Outsiders that struggle to survive. The Pod’s people live into a dystopian world, but they do not fear hunger, or sickness. Wearing the Smarteyes, which is given to them with a personal DNA signature, they can live their dreams as reality. But is really an everyone dream life? Read and find out!
Aria one of the protagonist, is one of the Pod’s people. While she was seeking answers about her mother who travelled to Bliss, another Pod, and their communication was severed by an Aether storm, she found herself and some other teens in trouble. Soon, Aria will struggle for her life after she’s thrown outside, into the Death Shop, the world beyond the Pod’s world. The outside world is full of danger, disease and people with significant abilities that live in tribes.
Just like Aria, Perry is also a strong and well developed character. He live in the outside world, carrying for all his people but himself.
The plot of the story is engaging. While you are immersed into the Perry’s world, you are switched to Aria’s world and you keep reading to find what happened next, glued to the story.
Of course there is a love story that flourishes between Aria and Perry, step by step, which make their story very credible.
The author creates a world that is vividly detailed and fascinating. I cannot wait for the sequel.
“Before Perry and Aria, there was Roar and Liv.”That’s true. In her short story, Roar and Liv, Veronica Rossi tells us the story of Roar and Liv, their love story that unfolds in front of us.
Their love is pure but soon they confront with the rules of the tribe they must to obey.
Since I read this story before Under the never sky I was a little confused about the setting of the story, but everything made sense when I started reading the actual novel.
Rossi takes us on a visual journey with vivid descriptions while she attacks the emotional side of her characters.
I cannot say that I didn’t like the story, but something was missing and felt incomplete. Well, this hasn’t discouraged me to read the actual novel.
The Evolution of Mara Dyer, by Michelle Hodkin is the sequel of the Mara Dyer series. The story continues the adventure of Mara and Noah more intense this time. The pacing is fast with more turns than the first novel. Beside the creepiest elements that make your heart to hammer your chest, we get some fantastic humour. That makes the story balanced and well written. The Noah's character is growing. He is the perfect match for Mara and the chemistry between them sparks. Of course, her fears still follow her and they become even more accentuated. Mara’s character is developing into much more frightening environment, into a much insecure world.
The plot is wild and brilliantly created. The web of conflicts is deepening even more, and the end left the reader crawling for the next novel.
Let’s hope that soon will have a fixed date for the next book in the series.
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin has everything. Has mystery and suspense, has supernatural and a love story.Mara, the main character is fully developed with all a teenager has and more. The “more” part is where her character become interesting and trilling. She looks damaged and deranged as she fights her own fears, fears that are not normal at all for a teenager. Moving into a new town, at a new fancy school, she tries to leave behind her old life, but her fears follow her.
At her new school, she meets Noah Shaw an arrogant boy with a reputation to maintain. However, all of this is a façade. A love story starts to contour between them and Mara gain the courage to speak with him about what is happening to her, her distress. With the help of Noah, she soon realizes what it is, but even that seems unbelievable for her.
The plot is full of twists and turns that keeps the reader glue to the story.
I really enjoy the story and I can wait to read the sequel.
3.5 starsWell, what can I say about Crewel, by Gennifer Albin …I tried to convince myself that is a good novel, and it is, but it didn’t work that well for me.
The beginning of the story startled me. Into a dystopian society, Arras is a world “controlled” by women through the threads they can manipulate. (This is original.) In fact, like in all dystopian societies, the world is closely controlled by the government. The citizen of it are tightly monitored, marriage options are limited,and also the number of children.
The main character, Adelice, has the ability to weave, even without a loom, from a young age when she could not even comprehend what weaving means. Her ability is highly requested among the citizens of Arras.
The women of Arras are shadowed. They must look good, wearing heels and make-up all the time, good dressed, they have only secretarial jobs, no important positions or power, and they cannot travel without a man. Spinisters on the other hand, the ones that can weave, must remain pure and keep a high standard when appear in public. Of course, there is a love triangle that I cannot say that I like or dislike, even though for me personally, someone involved in a triangle denotes a weak personality, but again, this can be the result of a society where people are segregated by gender.
I like the novel to a point. I found that the last part of the novel let me down, but the ending is good and the author prepare the reader for the sequel, which I hope I like it better.
Overall, the novel is good. The way that the author describes the world is fantastic and provoking. I already recommend the book to my friends and I will keep doing that.
